چکیده

Enterobacteriaceae are major pathogens in both hospital and community. Recently the number of MDR phenotypes (multi drug resistant) increased, with the emergence of XDR phenotypes (extremely drug resistant – susceptible only to colistin and tigecycline). It is extremely important to detect and correct the reporting mechanisms for resistance. Many clinical laboratories have problems detecting extendedspectrum beta-lactamases, class C beta-lactamases and carbapenemases. Confusion exists regarding the importance of these resistance mechanisms, optimal testing methods and appropriate reporting conventions. Failure to correctly detect these enzymes contributed to their spread and sometimes, to inappropriate use of antibiotics. Clinical laboratories need to have expertise to provide a rapid and clinically relevant antibiogram result in hospitals where these resistance mechanisms are encountered. This review aims to summarize the most important methods for detection of extended spectrum β-lactamases, class C beta-lactamases and carbapenemases. We studied recent and relevant literature retrieved from PubMed

Phenotypic Identification and Antibiotic Susceptibility Pattern of AmpC beta-Lactamase Producing Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolated from Urinary Tract Infections from a Tertiary Care Hospital of Rawalpindi, Pakistan

Introduction: This study is aimed to compare phenotypic test methods and determine antibiotic susceptibility pattern of AmpC beta-lactamase producing uropathogenic Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae in clinical isolates. Method: E. coli and K. pneumoniae were identified by standard microbiological procedures. Screening of AmpC beta-lactamase production was done by using cefoxitin disc (...

Prevalence of TEM Beta-Lactamases and Determination of MIC of four Different Classes of Antibiotics in Klebsiella pneumonaia Clinical Isolates

Background & Aims: Organisms producing TEM-β-lactamase are emerging around the world as a source of resistance to β-lactam antibiotics such as three generation cephalosporins. In this study, we used a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to identify genes TEM for Extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBLs) producing clinical isolates of Klebsiella pneumonia from hospitals of Boro...

AmpC β lactamases in Urinary Klebsiella pneumoniae Isolates: First Report of ACC Type AmpC β-lactamase Resistance in Iran

Background & Objective: The production of plasmid-mediated AmpC beta-lactamases (PMABLs) among urinary Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates causes a severe problem to the successful treatment of urinary tract infections (UTIs). This study was designed to evaluate antimicrobial resistance, the presence of AmpC beta-lactamase genes, and the genetic relatedness among K. pneumoniae strains separated from...

Detection of Amp C genes encoding for beta-lactamases in Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae.

PURPOSE Amp C beta-lactamase are Ambler class C enzymes that confer resistance to extended spectrum cephalosporins and are not inhibited by beta-lactamase inhibitors. Their detection is crucial, since the phenotypic tests are not standardised leading to ambiguity in interpretation of results. This study was done to detect the types of Amp C prevalent in Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumonia...
